The BWCA

The Bitterroot Wildfire Contractors Association is a group of private contractors and others who, directly or indirectly, participate in the supression of wildfire. We are sanctioned by the NRCG (Northern Rockies Coordinating Group) and have a current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide the latest in required and suggested Wildland fire training as directed by the Wildland and Prescribed Fire Qualification System Guide, better known as the PMS 310-1.

We are a non-profit organization registered with the State of Montana, govenered by a Board of Directors who are bound by the by-laws of the BWCA. The BWCA has membership meetings in the spring and the fall of every year, where new and old business will be discussed and guest speakers will give updates on changes and proposals that will affect wildland firefighter and/or small businesses. This will be a time for the membership to bring up suggestions concerning agency policy, requirements, future changes or BWCA business. Our annual dues are $25 for a general membership and $10 for a associate membership. The objectives of the BWCA are:

  1. To promote safe work practices and a safe working environment.
  2. To assist members in complying with agency requirements, for training, equipment certification and procedures.
  3. To help create safer, more efficient firefighting techniques.
  4. To work toward solutions to common problems between members and contracting agencies.
  5. To share firefighting technology for the public good.
  6. To make the public aware of the cost effectiveness and professionalism of contract firefighting.
  7. To give members a collective voce when speaking to contracting agencies.
  8. To provide beneficial information to the membership about small business taxes and concerns.
